That is first temple mountain of sandstone constructed by rulers of the Khmer empire at Angkor near modern Siem Reap in Cambodia. In the final decades of the 9th century during Angkorian, it served as the officeal stat temple of the king Indravarman I in the ancient city of Hariharalaya.

Bakong Temple took shape of stepped pyramid, poplularly identified as tepme mountain of early Khmer temple architecture. The striking similarty ot eh Bakong and Baorobudur temple in Java.
